Parental Writes #38 – It’s The Day Of The Show, Y’all!

As mentioned last week, Duncan is in a production of “Oliver” with a professional theater company here in Minneapolis.

(Shameless promo for those of you in the area – it runs Feb 4-Mar 1 at the Pantages Theater in Mpls)

That’s him third from the right. 🙂

He’s SUPER excited as tonight is their first preview. For those unfamiliar with the process, a preview is basically a dress rehearsal with an audience. It’s a chance for the production team to make sure everything is running smoothly before the official opening – kind of like a soft opening for a restaurant.

Anyhoo – the week leading up to opening is sometimes lovingly referred to as “Hell Week”. Very long days, very little sleep, tired voices, but LOTS of energy once the audience is there!

One of the first days of tech week is called the “10 of 12”, as in 10 hours out of 12. It’s the first time the Stage Manager and tech staff can run all the light cues, sound cues and scenery shifts.

By this point, the actors know their part <snicker> so it’s not about them at all. From that day on, it’s running and polishing time. Duncan’s schedule this week is 1:00 – 10:30pm.

Today he is taking a “mental health day” from school to rest up and hopefully keep a brewing cold at bay. Shhhh!

Break a leg, buddy!!
