Parental Writes #18 – Fantasy Football SeasonPaul Reyburn
I’ve been a football fan as long as I can remember. Specifically, a diehard MN Vikings fan. Maybe not as much as this guy,
because that’s a tad over the top. Plus, I can’t afford to go to many games. Of course, as a Vikings fan, I’ve had my share of “disappointments”, shall we say? 4 Super Bowl losses, Dec. 28. 1975 (and my everlasting hatred of the Dallas Cowboys), 1998, 2000, 2010, etc…
For several years now, I’ve been playing fantasy football. It’s a fun way to follow the game and not just one team (although I still root loudly for my Vikes every week). Duncan has been getting into it as well. In the league I run, he has helped people who couldn’t attend the draft pick their teams. Last year, one of them won the league so Duncan was paid in ice cream.
This year, at the other league’s draft, he was helping me pick. At one point, I picked a player and he immediately said “I don’t know about that, Dad.” I should have listened…
That player is now injured and may be out several weeks.
He loves the stats and tries to figure out each week what would be the best lineup possible. This year, he’s looking more at the team matchups as opposed to his favorite players.
It makes for fun Sunday afternoons – we talk about the games as we watch (he’s still figuring out the rules and what-not), and we’ll check our fantasy teams throughout the day. But mostly we enjoy watching the Vikings. Passing on that tradition! That’s my boy!!
